In a significant move towards modernising Odisha’s infrastructure, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for several key developmental projects worth Rs 6,701 crore in Bhubaneswar on 12 January, 2026.
Among these, the most notable are the new Lok Seva Bhavan and Odisha Assembly building, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,623 crore. The new facilities will be built over 71.13 acres and will feature an assembly hall with a seating capacity for 300 members, with plans for future expansion after delimitation. Majhi emphasized, "Therefore, we have to construct a new assembly building keeping in view for the next 50/100 years." The campus will also include underground parking to improve space management.
Additionally, the Chief Minister laid the foundation for an elevated corridor from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, costing Rs 952 crore, which will include key flyovers and a four-lane cable-stayed bridge. To promote environmental sustainability, 22,410 trees will be planted along the corridor.
