Orissa and Andhra Pradesh Government will jointly construct a hydro-electric project across the Sileru river at Chitrakonda in Malkanagiri district of south Orissa.
The 60 MW power project will be implemented in two phases with 30 MW capacity each. The project is estimated to cost Rs 350 crore. The cost and the power generated from the plant will be shared equally between the two states. Both states will soon prepare a draft agreement before commencement of work.
The two states are also planning to renovate and modernise the existing Machhakunda hydro-electricity plant, another project located on the border, with an estimated investment of Rs 300 crore.
After renovation of the 120 MW Machhakunda project, the power generated from it will be shared equally by the two states, which will contribute to the cost of the renovation and modernisation work.
