The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is set to construct a 60 km aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline from Visakhapatnam to the new international airport at Bhogapuram.
This project aims to ensure a competitive and reliable supply of ATF to the airport, supporting the aviation sector's growth in the region. The pipeline will reduce reliance on road transport, improving safety, fuel logistics, and efficiency. It is designed with "common carrier" status, allowing open access to qualified third-party fuel suppliers, which promotes competition and may lower fuel costs for airlines. The pipeline will be capable of transporting up to 0.5 million tonnes of ATF annually.
The project will pass through coastal areas, including Kapuluppada and Bheemili, and is expected to meet the growing demand for aviation fuel, replacing the less efficient and riskier road-based transport system.
