Power Grid Corporation of India has approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 705.51 crore aimed at strengthening national grid operations and boosting disaster resilience.
Approved by the Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects during its September 26 meeting, the two major initiatives focus on communication upgrades and emergency infrastructure. The first project, costing Rs 209.68 crore, involves the implementation of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) communication system across all five regional grids—Northern, North Eastern, Southern, Western, and Eastern. It is scheduled for commissioning by 23 August, 2026, and is expected to enhance coordination and efficiency in power transmission management.
The second initiative, with a Rs 495.83 crore budget, will procure 20 Emergency Restoration System (ERS) sets comprising 300 towers under the Make in India programme. Targeted for completion by 19 April, 2027, the ERS will enable quick restoration of power lines following natural disasters or failures. These strategic investments reflect Powergrid’s commitment to modernizing India's power infrastructure and strengthening national energy security.
