Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced plans to develop dedicated passenger corridors (DPC) over the next 30 years to meet growing passenger demand and enhance rail capacity.
Speaking at the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025, he emphasized the need to separate fast passenger traffic from existing lines to improve efficiency. The DPCs, spanning over 7,000 km by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat Vision, will feature indigenous signalling systems and modern operations control centers, with trains running at speeds up to 350 kmph.
The Union Minister also highlighted plans for Vande Bharat 4.0, aiming to launch within 18 months, focusing on improved comfort and quality to set new standards globally. Vaishnaw underlined three priorities for railways: passenger service, safety, and readiness for future challenges.
