The Ministry of Railways has approved multiple infrastructure projects worth around Rs 2,414 crore across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Punjab.
These initiatives aim to reduce congestion, enhance line capacity, improve safety systems, and enable faster, more reliable passenger and freight movement. Notable projects include the Barbenda–Damrughutu doubling and Damrughutu–Bokaro Steel City third and fourth lines in Jharkhand, a crucial capacity expansion with a projected cost of Rs 815.32 crore. The implementation of Electronic Interlocking at 34 stations on high-density routes will improve safety and operational efficiency, costing Rs 421.41 crore.
The Rajpura Bypass Line will enhance capacity on the Ambala–Jalandhar section, costing Rs 411.96 crore, while the Alappuzha–Ambalapuzha Doubling project in Kerala will add significant capacity and allow more trains per day. "By streamlining train movements, the bypass will significantly improve punctuality,” Railways stated. Additionally, projects like the Palakkad Town–Parli Bypass and Irugur–Podanur Doubling will boost operational efficiency and freight capacity, driving economic growth and faster train journeys across the regions.
