SAIL has signed an MoU with two companies-Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) and Kerala Minerals and Metals (KMML) for developing titanium project in the state.
SAIL is planning to set up the JV project under two phases to produce titanium sponge and processing it into metal. It envisages titanium metal capacity at a range of 18-40 lakh tpa. As per MoU, in phase I, KMML will supply titanium tetrachloride, required raw material for the project. In subsequent phases, backward and forward integration will be put in place.
This Titanium project will be third major project in the state after Titanium Dioxide Pigment Project in Thiruvananthapuram and Titanium Sponge Project in Kollam district.
