Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has achieved a significant milestone at its Bokaro Steel Plant, successfully producing a special grade of electrical steel for the first time.
This new material, specifically designed for electric motors, generators, small power transformers, and electrical appliances, will enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational losses. The newly developed 0.5mm thick IS 18316 LS Grade non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel has improved ductility and magnetic properties, making it ideal for applications in hybrid and electric vehicles.
The production process involved precise techniques, including low-carbon content for ductility and high-silicon content for magnetic properties. This breakthrough strengthens SAIL's position in the power, automotive, and renewable energy sectors.
