SJVN has synchronised Unit-I of its Rampur hydroelectric power plant, located at Duttnagar in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, with the Northern Grid
The capacity of Unit-I is 68.66 MW. With its synchronisation, the project has started power generation.
SJVN is implementing the power plant, with 412 MW capacity, in six units; each unit entailing a capacity of 68.66 MW. The project involves an investment of Rs 2,049.98 crore. It will be operated at full capacity by June 2014.
Once the project is fully commissioned, it will generate 1,770 million units of electricity per annum, of which 30 per cent will be supplied to Himachal Pradesh. As the home state, Himachal will also get 12 per cent free power from the plant. The balance power will be supplied to the northern grid states - Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
