Samsung India Electronics is planning to ramp up its manufacturing facility
in Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
The company intends to manufacture durables such as air-conditioners and
refrigerators at its Chennai plant. It currently manufactures these products at
its Noida plant in Delhi.
As this plant's capacity is saturated, it now plans to set up new lines at
its 80 acre Sriperumbudur facility in Chennai to manufacture these products.
Of the proposed investment of $100 million (approx Rs 480 crore), the company
has so far invested $30 million (approx Rs 144 crore) in the Chennai facility.
The remaining $70 million (approx Rs 336 crore) is likely to be pumped in over
the next two years.
This apart, plans are afoot to make Chennai facility an export hub.
Currently, the company's exports are mostly from its Noida unit.
