Hardware and electronics manufacturer Acer will expand into home electronics with plans to make as well as export appliances such as water and air purifiers, refrigerators and vacuum cleaners from India.
The company is already on track to meet the targets for the first year of the revised production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, which started in April 2023, harnessing shipments in the commercial space and exports. As part of its business expansion, AcerPure is being formed, through which the laptop manufacturer will sell consumer appliances. The company will register AcerPure in the next couple of weeks in the country.
Acer will manufacture the products in India, leveraging the country’s growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem as well as assess possible exports to neighbouring countries. These products will have to be supplied by electronic manufacturing services (EMS) vendors. The company has acquired the preferential market access certification mandated for government procurement, wherein products need to have over 50 percent of components sourced locally.
At present, its all-in-one computers are manufactured locally, while commercial laptops have two series designed and manufactured in India, with two more in the consumer space in the pipeline. The company is also designing its notebooks in India, with a few models being exported to countries such as the Philippines. In addition, the Taiwan-based company plans to expand into after-sales services with a subsidiary called High Point, which is already operational outside India.
