The first unit of the Srisailam Left
Bank Hydro Project was commissioned and synchronized to the State power grid on
27 April 2001.
The Rs.2,325 crore project involves the
construction of six generating units of 150 MW each. The underground project is
situated 250 metres below ground level in the midst of the Rajiv Tiger Reserve
Forest on the banks of the River Krishna in the Mahaboobnagar district of Andhra
Pradesh. The project is being implemented by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation
Corporation.
The second unit of the power plant is
expected to be ready by August 2001, and the remaining four, by December 2002.
