The Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan presented the state Budget 2023-24 on 21 March, 2023, and announced a slew of initiatives and development projects for Chennai.
TN Tech City would be setup in Chennai, Coimbatore and Hosur to keep pace with infrastructure requirements and place it on the global information technology map.
Allocations of Rs 1,847 crore has been made towards the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road Project. North Chennai development programme is to be undertaken by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
Under Singara Chennai initiative, the 44 km-long Adyar river will be restored in the first phase, with parks and walkways to be constructed on the riverbanks.
Some of the other projects include Rs 50 crore worth of exhibition and entertainment facilities at Island Grounda and sports facilities to be created at resettlement colonies in Chennai’s Kannagi Nagar, Perumbakkam, Navalur and Athipattu at a cost of Rs 20 crore.
Modernisation work includes bus depots/terminals to be upgraded at Vadapalani, Thiruvanmiyur, Vyasarpadi, Tambaram, Tiruvottiyur, Saidapet and provisioning free Wi-Fi services in various municipal corporations including Chennai, Tambaram, Avadi, Trichy and Salem.
In the upcoming financial year, classrooms, laboratories and toilets would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore, as stated by the Minister.
