Tehri hydropower complex has achieved a significant milestone with the commercial launch of the third 250 MW unit at the 1,000MW Tehri variable-speed pumped storage plant (PSP).
Power Minister Manohar Lal officially inaugurated the unit during a virtual event from New Delhi. This development makes Tehri the largest variable-speed PSP developed by a central public sector enterprise and a flagship project for advanced hydropower technology in the country. The commissioning of the unit is a crucial step in India’s clean-energy transition, noting that variable-speed machines offer higher operational flexibility, especially with the increasing integration of renewable energy sources. The Minister highlighted the project’s contribution to achieving national goals for system stability and energy planning.
Minister of State for Power, Shripad Y Naik, commended THDC India for its leadership in the sector, while Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal recognised the company’s success in bringing major projects online this year.
