Trichy Junction's Stage II of the road over bridge (RoB) is now expected to open by June 2026 after delays in construction.
Both the State Highways Department and Southern Railway have sped up their respective tasks to complete the bridge. The railways procured a steel girder to complete the bridge portion above the tracks near Trichy Junction, while the highways department focused on building walls and ramps for the multiple arms of the RoB. Railway officials mentioned that the assembling and welding work for the bowstring bridge has started, with another span expected soon. Heavy machinery, including cranes, will be used to position the span on supporting columns.
There were initial delays due to issues in procuring components for the project and a delay in acquiring land at the Posts and Telegraphs Colony for the RoB. "Once the railways complete their work and hand over the project, we will take up work to approach roads," said a highways official. The completion of this stage will ease traffic congestion at the Junction.
