In a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s textile sector, the Union Ministry of Textiles has approved a Rs 1,894 crore development plan for the PM Mitra Park in Virudhunagar. Spread over 1,052 acres, the integrated Mega Textile Park aims to attract technical textiles processing and integrated units, including those in medical and automotive sectors.
The park will house a 15 million litres per day (MLD) common effluent treatment plant with zero liquid discharge and a five MLD sewage treatment plant, ensuring sustainable operations. Additionally, a plug-and-play built-to-suit infrastructure of 13 lakh sq. ft. will provide safe accommodation for 10,000 workers. Construction is expected to be completed by September 2026.
The initiative is projected to bring in investments worth Rs 10,000 crore and create employment opportunities for around one lakh people. This development reinforces Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading textile manufacturing hub in the country and supports the Central government’s push to boost infrastructure and employment in the sector.
