The National Board for Wild Life (NBWL) on 12 April 2010 discarded Aparant
Iron and Steel's (AISPL) proposal for manufacturing of ductile iron spun pipes
in Goa, as the proposed plant is within a distance of 3.25 km from the boundary
of Bhagwan Mahavir wildlife sanctuary.
As per the proposal, the existing AISPL mini blast furnace of 1.50 million
tpa was proposed to be upgraded to produce pig iron of 2 lakh tpa and
installation of ductile iron pipe (1.5 lakh tpa) and sinter plant (2 lakh tpa)
at Costi in Sanguem taluka.
Likewise, another plan of A X Poi Palondicar for mining of manganese ore with
capacity of 0.2 million tpa and expansion in capacity of manganese ore from
0.010208 million tpa in Goa has been rejected as it fell within 5.3 km from the
boundary of Netravali wildlife sanctuary.
