Compared to April 2025, the number of new projects declined by 11.03 percent, though the overall investment value increased by 5.18 percent. The month saw a step up of fresh capex from the Government sector. Non-conventional power projects, particularly Solar and Wind energy, remained the dominant force in the investment landscape. These segments alone accounted for nearly 67 percent of the total capital expenditure announced during the month.BY OWNERSHIPThe private sector continued to lead in terms of both value and volume. It accounted for 80.07 percent of the total investment, with 587 projects worth Rs 4,15,523.44 crore. Notably, 75.57 percent of this investment was directed toward non-conventional power, reflecting the ongoing rush to invest in clean energy.Significant announcements included Tata Power%u2019s Rs 30,000 crore plan for Solar, Wind, and Hydel projects in Assam, and Bondada Renewable Energy%u2019s Rs 9,000 crore Solar plant in Andhra Pradesh.The government sector also stepped up its capital spending in May 2025. Investment commitments rose by 43.56 percent from April, totalling Rs 1,03,421.77 crore across 839 projects. Despite this increase, the public sector%u2019s share remained under 20 percent.BY SECTORElectricityInvestment in the power sector, especially in the non-conventional power sector, increased by 54.02 percent in April. It further increased by 48.97 percent in May 2025. As mentioned above, the Solar/Wind power sectors accounted for the lion%u2019s share in this total investment. This was facilitated by the increase in Private sector%u2019s share from 50 percent in April 2025 to 75.5 percent in May 2025.The 220 Solar/Wind power projects together intend to add new generation capacity of 21,833 MW in the next 5 to 6 years. The Rs 3,47,383.22 crore proposed in these projects accounted for a whopping 66.94 percent of the total fresh investment emanating in May 2025.A Rs 30,000 crore Solar/Wind power project of Tata Power Co. in Assam and a Rs 9,000 crore Solar power project of Bondada Renewable Energy at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh were the two large projects announced in this sector in May 2025.Fresh Projex by Ownership: May 2025OwnershipGovernment Central Govt.
