China is planning to build three more hydropower projects on the mainstream of the Brahmaputra river in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) in India.
As per the 12th Five Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China, it clearly specifies that the three hydro-power projects have received approval by the Chinese authorities for its implementation.
Another hydro-power project is under construction at Zangmu. India has recommended China to make sure that interests of downstream states are not affected by any action in upstream areas.
In October 2013, the government of India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strengthening cooperation on trans-border rivers.
