The stalled Tawang-II hydel project has received environment clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
In February 2013, the project had received approval from the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) of MoEF.
The 800 MW hydroelectric power project, undertaken by the NHPC, has been awaiting environment clearance since 2011.
On the basis of FAC recommendations, the MoEF has granted State-I forest clearance to the Tawang-II hydel project.
With China's announcement of three hydel projects on the river Brahmaputra, in early 2013, the Centre has been keen on pushing the Tawang project.
The Tawang project will require diversion of 116 ha forest land, including 19.6 ha for underground use.
