Hindustan Petroleum Corporation is
reportedly taking steps in acquiring land from Visakhapatnam Port Trust for the
capacity expansion project at its existing Visakhapatnam petroleum refinery.
HPCL is proposing to double refining capacity at its Vizag refinery to 15
million tpa. The project estimated to cost Rs.8,300 crore is targeted for
completion by 2010.
The refinery expansion project will
also entail creation of supporting infrastructure like a single buoy mooring
facility to handle very large crude carriers and a crude storage terminal,
costing Rs.700 crore.
Currently, HPCL is in the midst of a
Rs.2,200 crore project to produce Euro-III compliant petrol and diesel.
HPCL has also proposed to set up a
petrochemical complex in the proposed Vizag special economic zone. This complex,
to cost Rs.6,000 crore, will cater to the export demand. The Andhra Pradesh
government has agreed to allocate 1,500 acres in the SEZ area and 2,000 acres
outside this area for the complex.
ProjectsToday adds:
In August 2005, it was
reported that HPCL could not pursue its Vizag refinery expansion project owing
to non-availability of land. The company had then decided to set up a new 15
million tpa instead. With the current development of HPCL acquiring land from
Vizag Port Trust, the expansion project is being pursued.
