City and
Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is planning to defer its two major
international projects in the wake of global credit crunch and the recent terror
attacks.
CIDCO is
developing a Rs.5,000 crore theme city project on 250 acre on the Pandavkada
plateau near Kharghar in Navi Mumbai. The bidding for the theme city project was
to be completed by December 2009 but for now the
Maharashtra state government has delayed the bidding process by at
least another six months. As
a result, CIDCO had to extend the date for submission of the EoI from December 4
to 18. Finalising the bidder before awarding the contract will take another
three to four months.
Globally-known firms like Essel World, Tishman Speyer and
Dubai's
Limitless and Emaar Group, besides Indian companies, including the Reliance
Group had evinced their interest in the project. However the interest
is now declining.
Another important project that is being pushed on the backburner is diplomatic
enclave at Airoli. The project has not made any progress since its announcement
in September 2008. Countries like Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, China, Austria
and Norway had evinced an interest in building their embassies in the enclave.
Meanwhile, the only project that has made some headway in recent months is the
international golf course for which Cidco has approved a Rs.7.5 crore irrigation
contract.
