The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on 11 May 2009 agreed to
loan a sum of Rs 200 crore for slum rehabilitation and housing projects for the
economically weaker sections. The housing projects are being implemented under
the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
The loan proposal will now be sent to the Maharashtra Government for
approval. The PCMC is seeking to raise the loan amount from the Pimpri-Chinchwad
New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA). However, PCNTDA is a government
institution and will need the permission of the state government to give a loan
to the PCMC.
Besides, the PCMC also approved development projects with a total expenditure
of Rs 2.34 crore.
