Commencement of work on CESC's 2x300 MW thermal power plant at Haldia (West
Bengal) has been delayed due to non-availability of land.
The company requires a total of 320 acre to start the construction of the Rs
2,400 crore
Haldia power plant. About 280 acre has been acquired but there has been an
inordinate delay on the part of the Haldia Development Authority in providing
the remaining 40 acre. According to sources, identification of the lenders and
the EPC contractor for the project is over.
On the other hand, construction wok at the Rs 1,200 crore Unit III (250 MW)
of the
Budge Budge thermal power station near Kolkata is nearing completion with
commercial production slated in September 2009.
CESC is likely to acquire 1,200 acre for the proposed 1,000
MW thermal power plant at Neulapoi in Orissa's Dhenkanal district shortly
and has applied for the coal linkage as well. However, there had not been much
progress in acquisition of land for the proposed 2,000 MW project at Pirpainti
in Godda district of Bihar and 1,000 MW project at Dumka in Jharkhand.
