The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has approved design changes for the Bandra–Versova Sea Link’s Juhu and Versova connectors, a project being executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
Now 30 percent complete, the 9.8 km link is expected to be operational by May 2028. A senior MSRDC official said the Versova connector will extend to Juhu Circle instead of Nana Nani Park, while the Juhu connector will end at Relief Road rather than Juhu Tara Road. “This is being done to avoid traffic congestion in the area,” he noted.
Additionally, a 120-metre navigational span will be installed at Juhu for fishermen. Revised plans include extensions towards the Western Express Highway (WEH), with a cable-stayed bridge for smoother dispersal, minimising mangrove impact. However, land requirements have risen from 1.37 to 4.36 hectares of forest land, alongside 17.98 hectares of non-forest land, leading to the cutting of 178 trees. Project costs have escalated from Rs 11,332.82 crore to Rs 18,120.96 crore, an increase of Rs 6,788.14 crore.
