The Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority (TNSHA) will construct a 14.2 km four-lane flyover from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi along the East Coast Road (ECR), the longest elevated corridor project planned by the state government.
Estimated at Rs 2,100 crore, the final cost may vary due to land acquisition and related factors. The corridor, to be developed under a public-private partnership model with support from bank loans, will include toll collection. Once complete, it is expected to cut travel time between Thiruvanmiyur and Uthandi to 15–20 minutes from the current 60 minutes, benefiting motorists heading to Mamallapuram, Puducherry, Cuddalore, and other popular destinations.
The flyover, beginning at Tidel Park and extending to Uthandi, will be built with pillars along the median and will feature a 16–20 mtrs. width with footpaths. Officials noted that the project will not only ease congestion on ECR but also serve as an alternative route from Adyar to Kelambakkam, Thiruporur, and Mambakkam on OMR through ECR, thereby decongesting both corridors.
