Global electronics manufacturing giant Jabil is nearing completion of its new facility in Sanand, Gujarat, with an investment of over Rs 2,000 crore, according to Minister of Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The plant will focus on manufacturing silicon photonics and other advanced electronic products, supporting India's push for domestic manufacturing and technological self-reliance. The Sanand plant, which is almost completed, aligns with the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) Scheme for the telecom sector, launched in April 2021 and set to conclude at the end of the current financial year. Jabil, with over 140,000 employees and operations in more than 25 countries, counts over 300 global brands as clients, spanning industries such as healthcare, packaging, cloud technology, smartphones, automotive, and home appliances.
So far, the government has disbursed Rs. 1,162 crore in incentives under the PLI scheme, with Jabil emerging as the top beneficiary, receiving Rs. 235.87 crore. Industry leaders advocate greater alignment between telecom operators and the government to realize the full potential of local manufacturing and job creation.
