The Telangana government has launched a Rs 12,000-crore road development plan to enhance connectivity across the state. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka and R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that tenders for the first phase will soon be invited.
The R&B department will build 5,190 km of roads for Rs 6,478 crore, while the Panchayat and Rural Development department will develop 7,947 km of rural roads for Rs 6,000 crore. Projects will follow the hybrid annuity model (HAM). The model ensures government funding of 40 percent in 10 instalments, with contractors investing the rest, repaid based on performance with inflation adjustments.
The initiative aims to link villages to mandals, mandals to districts, and districts to Hyderabad via modern, all-weather roads, including fourlane district roads, two-lane mandal links, and upgraded rural routes. By December, an additional 6,810 km will be tendered. The government emphasises HAM’s benefits—low investor risk, steady returns, assured maintenance for 15 years, and safer, pothole-free roads—supporting economic growth and job creation.
