In a major redevelopment push, 53 housing societies in Kandivali locality in Mumbai plan to come together to redevelop their 26-year-old Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Complex.
Spread across 12 acres, the complex houses 3,488 families in 225 sq. ft. apartments, built by MHADA in 2000. The project aims to transform the aging housing society through a cluster redevelopment model, which involves combining adjoining buildings and plots into a single large-scale project. This redevelopment will improve infrastructure, widen roads, and create open spaces and new amenities. It will also provide better housing for current residents while making more efficient use of the land.
Cluster redevelopment allows for better planning and improved amenities for housing needs, and aimilar projects in Mumbai include redevelopment in areas like Motilal Nagar (Goregaon) and Adarsh Nagar (Worli), setting a precedent for this model's success in the city’s real estate landscape.
