The 1x800 MW Ultra Super Critical Expansion Unit at the Chaudhary Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant (DCRTPP) in Yamunanagar is progressing on schedule, with commissioning targeted for March 2029.
The Rs 7,272.07 crore project, awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, was reviewed in a high-level meeting chaired by Sanjeev Kaushal, Chairman of Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL).
Key construction milestones include the completion of the curtain wall by June 2025 and structural work by July 15, 2025. The boiler light-up, a major operational milestone, is scheduled for August 2028. Laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 April, 2025, the foundation marked the formal start of this expansion project.
Land acquisition is ongoing, with 56 acres identified and 35 acres already secured for site infrastructure. BHEL has secured a 19 kW temporary electricity connection and applied for a 250 kW line to support further construction.
