ABB has announced the dispatch of its first locally manufactured wind power converter from its state-of-the-art Nelamangala facility in Bengaluru, following the acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in December 2025.
This milestone highlights ABB’s expanded commitment to the renewable energy sector, particularly wind power, both in India and globally. The delivery, which is to a wind turbine OEM, integrates Gamesa Electric’s wind energy conversion technologies into ABB’s portfolio. This step aligns with India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, strengthening the country’s position as a global renewable energy hub.
India, as the world’s third largest wind manufacturing base, is set to meet about 10 percent of global wind demand by 2030 and aims to scale its installed wind capacity to 107 GW. Anoop Anand, President of ABB India’s Motion High Power Division, emphasised that advanced wind technologies are crucial for the energy transition and better grid integration.
