Micron Technology, the US-based memory chip manufacturer, is set to begin commercial semiconductor production at its USD 2.75 billion facility in Sanand, Gujarat, by the end of February 2026.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, confirmed that pilot production has already commenced at various authorised semiconductor plants, with full-scale commercial production expected soon.He highlighted India's forward-looking semiconductor strategy, aiming to transition from 28-nanometer to seven-nanometer, and eventually to two-nanometer nodes.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF), he emphasised the importance of global partnerships for maintaining stable supply chains, especially in critical minerals. India has already formed collaborations with countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, Europe, and the US. He also noted the growing international trust in India, with global leaders expressing interest in partnering with the country in sectors like infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, logistics, and emerging industries.
