Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, along with Chief Secretary K Vijayanand and other officials, inaugurated a 132/33 kV substation at Gannavaram Airport, built at a cost of around Rs 30 crore, to strengthen power infrastructure in Amaravati and Vijayawada.
The Minister announced that the state government has implemented the ‘True-Down’ mechanism for the first time, resulting in a reduction of electricity tariffs by 13 paise per unit. In a historic move, the government has also borne electricity dues of Rs 4,498 crore on behalf of consumers, easing financial pressure on the public. The ministerhighlighted that the government has reduced power line losses from 16 percent to below 11 percent, released over 75,000 agricultural connections, and is promoting the Solar Rooftop Programme, offering subsidies to BC beneficiaries and free systems for SC and ST households.
Chief Secretary Vijayanand said the substation will ensure uninterrupted 24×7 power supply to the airport, surrounding mandals, and villages while reducing load on the Ganguru Substation. The government is focused on minimising transmission losses and providing reliable electricity to all.
