Power distribution networks in rural areas of southern Andhra Pradesh are being restructured, with the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) working on the separation of 3,015 11 kV feeders.
This effort aims to improve the stability of power supply, especially for agricultural needs. APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) L. Shivashankar highlighted this initiative during his Republic Day address at the company's headquarters, saying, “We are committed to ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power supply to rural areas.” Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, 74 overloaded 33 kV feeders have already been separated to enhance stability. Additionally, feeder-level solarisation is underway, with a target capacity of 610 MW.
Solar works in the Kuppam area have already led to the generation of 141 MW. As part of the initiative, rooftop solar systems are being installed for 7,438 SC and ST consumers. APSPDCL also aims to install smart meters, with 6.14 lakh services already covered.
