Abellon CleanEnergy has entered into a technical agreement with Germany’s Agraferm Group for setting up biogas plants across India. In Phase-I the company will begin setting up biogas plants in Gujarat and later on pan-India basis, with technical support from Agraferm Group.
The plants will be developed using different sets of feedstock including animal waste, food and kitchen waste, garden waste and agricultural or process residues available in locations around the proposed projects.
The Central government has set a target of setting up 5,000 biogas plants across India. Abellon CleanEnergy is also setting up city-based waste-to-energy projects at five cities in Gujarat under PPP model, and is poised to move forward in developing its biogas business vertical.
Currently, the total biogas production in India is 2.07 billion cu mtr per year, which is lesser than the potential in the range of 29-48 billion m3 per year.
