At the Bihar Biofuel Samvad programme on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced that Bihar will establish 10 compressed biogas (CBG) plants by end-2025, backed by investments exceeding Rs 1,500 crore.
These facilities are projected to produce five lakh tonne of biomass-based CBG annually and generate over 50,000 direct and indirect employment across operations, maintenance, and biomass collection. Highlighting the Centre’s Rs 25,000 crore national investment plan in CBG production, Chaudhary said Bihar is strategically placed within the Bharat Biogas Network. The state also plans to provide 50 lakh CBG connections by 2025, delivering clean energy to over 15 lakh households.
Under Bihar’s 2023-approved biofuel policy, eligible CBG units can avail a subsidy of up to 15 percent (maximum Rs five crore) on plant and machinery. Bihar targets 23,968 MW renewable energy output in five years, with 18,448 MW from solar. Agreements worth Rs 5,337 crore with L&T, NTPC, Avaada, and SECI aim to generate 2,357 MW. Agri-voltaic, wind, and waste-to-energy initiatives are also in progress.
