Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Leonardo, a global leader in defence, aerospace, and security, to establish a fully integrated helicopter manufacturing ecosystem in India.
The partnership aims to meet the Indian Armed Forces' helicopter needs, particularly for Leonardo's AW169M and AW109 TrekkerM models. The collaboration will focus on indigenisation, maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) capabilities, and pilot training, advancing India's self-reliance in helicopter production. By combining Leonardo's design and engineering with Adani Defence’s expertise, the initiative supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, boosts national defence readiness, and has potential for civil aviation and international supply chain integration. It is expected to create thousands of high-skill work roles and position India as a competitive hub for helicopter manufacturing.
Adani Defence & Aerospace Director Jeet Adani emphasised, “Together, we will build an ecosystem on Indian soil that brings manufacturing, assembly, training, and world-class support into one cohesive whole.” Leonardo's Managing Director Gian Piero Cutillo highlighted India's growing helicopter demand, making it a key market for the collaboration.
