The 108-km Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, connecting Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Ring Road to Adhelai village near Bhavnagar, is almost complete with 98 percent of the work finished.
Once operational, the expressway will reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera SIR to just 40–45 minutes, greatly improving accessibility to the emerging Dholera Smart City. Dholera SIR, India’s first greenfield smart city, is home to significant investments, including the Tata Group’s Rs 91,000 crore semiconductor plant. However, several finishing activities are still pending before the expressway opens fully.
Key construction works include the railway overbridge (ROB) crossings over the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) and Bhavnagar railway lines, with expansion joint work still ongoing. The relocation of the GETCO Juval Rupavati substation has cleared a major obstruction, and earthwork near the site is almost complete. With substantial progress made, the expressway promises to be a major catalyst for economic growth and regional development.
