Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is undergoing significant infrastructure development aimed at transforming it into a modern, smart, and sustainable city.
As part of this plan, works are underway across 38 packages, including projects focused on flood control, urban infrastructure, and the development of smart roads and green spaces. Of these, 14 road work packages have already been tendered and are progressing.
The roads will be expanded to six lanes and incorporate "Smart Trunk Infrastructure," which includes facilities such as dedicated cycling and walking tracks, avenue plantations, water and irrigation pipelines, underground sewerage networks, utility ducts, electricity supply, ICT networks, reused water pipelines, and modern street furniture. Notable ongoing projects include Package-IV, valued at Rs 522.39 crore, and other key roads such as N-15, E-6, and N-12 with a combined investment of over Rs 4,000 crore.
In addition to road infrastructure, the state government is focusing on enhancing greenery in the capital. Approx. Rs 175 crore has been allocated for avenue plantation along 35 roads, with Rs 25 crore earmarked for developing public parks throughout the city. P Narayana, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, stated that the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) aims to complete the trunk roads within 1.5 years and the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) layout infrastructure within 2.5 years.
