Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the goddess Sita temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi, Bihar, on 08 August, 2025. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will attend the event as the Chief Guest, highlighting the project’s significance for the state.
Earlier this month, the Bihar Cabinet sanctioned Rs 883 crore for the construction and development of the Sita temple complex. The plan aims to transform Punaura Dham into a major religious and cultural destination, modeled after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra in Ayodhya.
Of the total budget, Rs 137 crore will be allocated for renovating the existing temple structure, while Rs 728 crore will be dedicated to developing supporting infrastructure. This includes constructing a parikrama path (circumambulation route), parking facilities, and approach roads to improve accessibility and visitor experience. Additionally, funds have been earmarked for the temple’s maintenance over the next ten years, ensuring sustained upkeep of the complex.
