The Anakapalli-Diwan Cheruvu section of the national highway will be expanded to six lanes over a distance of 160.25 km to accommodate the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu 2027.
Rajamahendravaram MP Daggubati Purandeswari highlighted the project’s economic benefits for East Godavari, Kakinada, and Anakapalli districts, which will foster growth, reduce travel time, and boost financial returns. During a review meeting for the proposal to expand NH-16, she emphasised the importance of coordination between government agencies for smooth land acquisition and permitting processes. The expansion will span key areas like East Gonagudem and Velugubanda, ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
Officials are also focusing on infrastructure improvements, including light vehicle underpasses and protective crossings at major junctions. The project aims to foster development and improve the standard of living for local populations while enhancing the overall transportation network.
