The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department of Andhra Pradesh has launched a Rs 66,523 crore public private partnership (PPP) strategy to enhance urban infrastructure by 2029.
This comprehensive plan excludes Amaravati and covers key areas such as smart water systems, modern transport networks, and sustainable housing. A sum of Rs 2,000 crore has been earmarked for Viability Gap Funding in this year’s budget, as stated in a press release by Principal Secretary S Suresh Kumar. He highlighted that the government is focusing on the development of five smart cities with integrated IoT infrastructure, the upgrading of 2,500 km of roads, the establishment of 15 new urban transit systems, and the implementation of green building standards to ensure 40 percent greater energy efficiency in all new urban projects.
The state aims to attract Rs 35,000 crore in FDI into new economic zones and has proposed 33 PPP projects in sectors like waste-to-energy, urban mobility, and renewable energy. “These projects will create strong economic momentum and position Andhra Pradesh as one of the country’s fastest-growing urban development hubs,” said Mr. Kumar.
