ArcelorMittal has announced three new renewable energy projects in India, with a combined capacity of one GW in solar and wind energy, marking a USD 900 million investment.
These projects, located in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, are part of the company’s efforts to expand its green energy capacity. Once completed, they will double ArcelorMittal's renewable energy capacity in India to two GW. The power generated from these projects will be supplied to AMNS India, a steelmaking joint venture with Nippon Steel. The specific projects include a 36 MW solar plant in Amaravati, Maharashtra, a 400 MW solar and 500 MWh battery storage project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and a 250 MW wind, 300 MW solar, and 300 MWh battery storage project in Bachau, Gujarat.
The company’s global renewable energy capacity will reach 3.3 GW after these projects are completed. ArcelorMittal has stated that these investments align with its commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
