On 20 December, 2025, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the 10-MW solar power plant at Thenzawl in Serchhip district, a project built at a cost of Rs 74.82 crore with funding from NABARD.

Addressing the event, the CM highlighted the importance of the project as a milestone for the state’s energy sector. He also mentioned the ongoing construction of a five-MW solar park at Sumsuih and plans for additional solar parks across Mizoram. CM Lalduhoma said the government is tackling rising demand through strategies like pump storage power with the Vankal Solar Plant, fast-tracking the 132-MW Tuivai project, and laying the foundation for the 24-MW Tuirini Hydel Electric Project next year, both crucial for enhancing Mizoram’s energy self-sufficiency.

Power Minister F Rodingliana discussed the growing demand for power, with peak demand reaching 160 MW. He emphasised the importance of outsourcing seven ageing hydro power plants to manage maintenance costs. The Thenzawl plant has already generated Rs 3.42 crore in power since its commissioning.
