Around 75 tunnel NHAI projects entailing investment of Rs 49,000 crore are under construction in the country. Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari said this while addressing the 'World Tunnel Day 2024 Conference on Safe & Sustainable Tunneling'.
This is part of 146 km in length which ongoing in the country, and additional 78 tunnel projects, costing Rs 1.10 lakh crore, spanning 285 km, are also planned, highlighting importance of tunnels in infrastructure development. NHAI has completed 35 tunnel projects of 49 km in length costing Rs 20,000 crore.
"Two days before, I had a meeting with Assam CM. Under the Brahmaputra river, we are planning to make a huge tunnel", the Minister said.
