BEML has commenced production of Metro cars at its Bengaluru facility from 29 July 2019 for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for its MRS 1 Project.
BEML has bagged the largest order for Metro of 505 coaches in India through international competition and thereby giving shape to the vision of ' Make in India'.
BEML had previously bagged order worth Rs 3,015 crore from MMRDA for supply of 378 Metro Cars (63 Metro train sets of six cars each) for Mumbai Metro Corridor 2 and 7.
The contract includes spares, design, installation and commissioning of Metro cars. The Metro train will operate on 25 kV AC traction and is equipped with CCTV surveillance for passenger safety.
It is made of stainless steel body with four doors on each side and real-time track monitoring. The cars have a capacity of carrying 300 passengers in each car.
