BHEL has set up a new state-of-the-art Core and Tank Shop at its transformer
manufacturing facility at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. The unit was dedicated to the
nation by Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public
Enterprises, on 2 June 2010.
With the new unit, BHEL has raised its transformers manufacturing capacity
from 8,500 MVA (megavolt ampere) to 15,000 MVA per annum.
The company is likely to invest Rs 150 crore in the Jhansi unit by 2012 to
enhance the locomotive manufacturing capacity to take it to over 100 locos per
annum. The Minister also flagged-off the 26th Locomotive of 5,000 HP rating,
against an order from Indian Railways for 50 such locos on 2 June 2010.
