BHEL proposes to set up a 1,600 MW power plant in West Bengal. According to
sources, the plant could come up at the site in Singur, where the Tatas were to
build a factory for producing their small car, Nano.
A team of BHEL officials inspected the abandoned 997-acre plot, about 45 km
from Kolkata, along with West Bengal Power Development Corporation officials (WBPDCL).
BHEL may set up the power project in partnership with the WBPDCL.
It is learnt that the BHEL has sought a detailed map of the project site,
which is still in possession of the Tatas, and will soon start preparing a
feasibility report for it.
