The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has selected contractor for constructing a portion of the 10 km stretch connecting Marine Drive with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL).
BMC will not put the proposal for the civic standing committee’s approval.
The project was conceived in 2011 with a total stretch of 29.2 km starting from the Princess Street flyover at Marine Lines and ending at Kandivli. The BMC has divided Phase-I, the 10 km South Mumbai stretch estimated to cost Rs 6,894 crore into three parts.
The civic body had called separate bids for each stretch. A joint venture (JV) of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Hyundai Development Corporation won the bid for the first part -- Haji Ali to Worli-end of BWSL, the shortest of the three divisions within the 10 km stretch.
BMC is expected to open the bids for the remaining two parts soon. As per the contract, the work is to be executed within four years.
