Bajaj Auto (BAL) is likely to look at other locations apart from Chakan in
Pune, Maharashtra, for its proposed three- and four-wheeler plant due to
unavailability of adequate land for the new plant. BAL already has a plant at
Chakan which manufactures motorcycles.
So far, BAL has received about 250 acre from the MIDC. However, it is looking
at an additional 100 acre to begin work on the new plant.
The company is mulling to set up a plant for manufacture of three-wheelers,
and the small car under its JV with Renault and Nissan. The project is estimated
to cost Rs 2,000 crore.
Apart from Chakan, BAL may look at Aurangabad or Pantnagar for the propose
project, according to sources.
Meanwhile, BAL is planning to raise its three-wheeler production capacity from existing 35,000 to 40,000 units at its Waluj plant in Maharashtra by September 2010.
